Vermont Green Up Day at UVAC

UVAC Joins the Effort for a Cleaner, Greener Vermont!

We had a fantastic turnout for Green Up Vermont Day at UVAC on Saturday, May 3 — even the rain waited until we were wrapping up! Thanks to the incredible enthusiasm of our 53 volunteers, including UVAC members, staff, families, and the UVAC Swim Team, this great group of all ages came together to clean up our campus and surrounding areas.

Together, we collected 16 bags of trash — a great step toward a cleaner, greener Upper Valley!

This event was part of Green Up Day, a beloved Vermont tradition since 1970. Every year on the first Saturday in May, Vermonters unite to pick up roadside litter, making a tangible difference in the beauty and health of our environment. Organized by the nonprofit Green Up Vermont, the initiative aims to promote civic pride, environmental responsibility, and community engagement across the state.

A huge thank you to UVAC’s Energy & Sustainability Committee for organizing the event and providing wonderful breakfast items to fuel our work, and pizza afterwards, and to the Ink Factory for donating the snazzy custom t-shirts that helped keep our crew visible and stylish!

We’re also grateful to the Town of Hartford, VT Town Planner and Green-Up Day Coordinator Matt Osborn, for providing the official Green Up Day trash bags — an essential part of making this initiative a success.

We’re proud to be part of this statewide effort and look forward to continuing our work toward sustainability and community well-being.
